Overland Park Chosen to Host the Elite One Cup National Championship!
PARKTON, MD (June 30, 2020): Following a competitive review process with more than thirty facilities from across the United States, Overland Park, Kansas, home to the SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex has been chosen to host the Elite One Cup National Championship on July 13-18, 2021 (Division I) and July 21-26, 2021 (Division II).
The Elite One Cup is youth soccer’s one true national championship as all teams, equally, are welcome and encouraged to apply regardless of registration provider, membership status, or carding entity. The Elite One Cup National Championship will feature 112 top teams competing over a six-day event, per division, for the opportunity to be crowned youth soccer’s one true national champion!
Visit Overland Park has taken the progressive step of partnering directly with the Elite One Cup to maximize the value of all local available resources, to include hotel properties and other businesses, to ensure the greatest success of this event. This evolution in the sport tourism industry creates the ideal scenario for all stakeholders and serves to positively affect the pay to play model by keeping participation fees low.
“It is a privilege to be named the host city for this exciting new championship,” said Dana Markel, President and CEO of Visit Overland Park. “Having Overland Park chosen during the Covid-19 pandemic has given our community something positive to rally around and we enthusiastically look forward to welcoming the finalist to our community next summer.”
Mike Laplante, Manager, Soccer Complex Operations said, “The City of Overland Park and SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex continue to deliver on its original vision to create a world class soccer environment for young athletes from across the country. We believe our fields, amenities, nearby hotels, and restaurants provide athletes, and their families, a memorable experience to prepare, play and have fun. We look forward to working with Elite One LLC, on this new tournament platform.”
The Elite One Cup design maximizes the number of competitive games for participating teams while minimizing travel costs and providing a more economical experience for families. This results in reduced costs for families while enhancing development opportunities for players. Furthermore, all accepted teams receive an Elite One Cup roster, patches to be placed on each player’s uniform, and are provided with insurance coverage during all Elite One Cup events at no additional cost.
“Today signifies an important moment in the evolution of youth soccer in America,” said Dr. Greg Smith, founder of the Elite One Cup. “The Elite One Cup provides an exciting opportunity for teams to compete for youth soccer’s one true national championship, equally, regardless of their affiliations or memberships. We could not be more excited to be working with the incredible people at Visit Overland Park to hold our National Championship events at the SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex.”
These two six-day events are estimated to produce a more than $8 million dollar economic impact for the local area.
